Player Spotlight Series, Part 7: Seppo Paju
As we prepare for the next Disc Golf World Tour event at the Konopiste Open, which starts May 5, our Player Spotlight Series returns. Starting off our second round of interviews is 2014 European Champion Seppo Paju:
The 2016 season is a few months old now. What’s been a highlight of the young season for you?
Winning the first EuroTour of the season in Holland has probably been the highlight so far. Also, shooting my highest rated round in The Memorial was fun.
What are you hoping to accomplish this year?
To repeat the European Championships and win the Finnish Championships. Of course, I wanna play my best in all the tournaments that I enter in.
A highlight for disc golf fans has certainly been the Disc Golf World Tour. What was your experience like at the first event?
My performance wasn’t very good, but I enjoyed playing as always. The tournament itself was organized just fine. I would just like to see women’s division in these events.
As a Finnish player, what does it mean to you to see the DGWT blend US and European disc golf?
That I get to play all of them and see what it’s all about.
You’ve already travelled between the two continents this year, which can be tiring. What helps you stay fresh, focused and ready to compete throughout the tour season?
I just go back to work and don’t let traveling bother me.
What do you enjoy about having the opportunity to tour each year?
I enjoy traveling, especially now that my girlfriend Vanessa lives in Finland with me, and I get to show her all the nice places in Europe. I’m really thankful for the opportunity to do what I love, and for that, I have to thank my sponsor Prodigy Disc and my parents. It’s just a shame that there is no Women’s Division in DGWT. Vanessa travels with me and would like to play like a lot of other women would too, but now she can only watch, which feels bad to me.
You’ve competed at the Franz Ferdinand course in the Czech Republic before. What do you like about the course?
It’s a lot of fun to play there. It’s really beautiful.
Thank you to Seppo for taking the time to talk to us as he continues his 2016 season. Keep checking back for the latest news surrounding the DGWT and for more Player Spotlight interviews.
