La Mirada Open Competitor Info

The start of the Disc Golf World Tour, La Mirada Open, is only two weeks away! The DGWT organization has spent a long time preparing to get the Tour truly started and are waiting for the moment with great excitement.

Here’s important information to all players attending the inaugural Disc Golf World Tour event.

Schedule

You can download the schedule here. Please note that the schedule is subject to change. All players will be informed about any changes made to schedule.

On-site services

The tournament center is located by the La Mirada Tennis center. The address of the center is La Mirada Community Regional Park, 13701 Adelfa Dr, La Mirada, CA 90638.

The tournament center hosts the tournament office, info desk, pro shop, and toilets. In addition to disc golf equipment there are beverages and snacks available at the pro shop. There’s plenty of parking space around the streets of the La Mirada community regional park on Adelfa Drive, Foster Road and Alicante Road.

Sturdier meals are available in plenty of restaurants within a 5-minute drive away from the tournament center.

There is no designated tournament hotel. Several accommodation options are available within 15 minute driving distance of the tournament center.

Media Day

Media Day is all about the balance of inward and outward sports promotion. It’s about giving the general public and the die hard disc golf fans alike an opportunity to meet and greet the finest competitors in our sport. During the Media Day, select players give interviews to different media outlets and attend promo shoots for the DGWT, the sport itself and the manufacturers they represent. Current Top 10 Disc Golf World Tour ranked athletes from major disc manufacturers will be invited to send their players to attend the 2-hour PR event prior to the La Mirada DGWT event. This is our way to give the manufacturers a chance to let their stars shine in the spotlight.

The Media Day can be attended by any and all media outlets, and we especially encourage the manufacturers to take advantage of this promotional event. The DGWT is happy to provide a credible environment for the production teams of all major manufacturers and disc golf media outlets to create content for their own promotional purposes.

The La Mirada Open Media Day is on Tuesday 12 PM – 2 PM.

Disc Golf Metrix

We are introducing a new statistical service to the disc golf world: Disc Golf Metrix. The Metrix gathers detailed statistics about players’ performances. This makes following disc golf more interesting and engaging.

The stats are:
• Green hits (GRH) – Reach the 10m circle in par -2 throws or less.
• Inside the circle putts (ICP) – How many throws a player took inside the 10m circle.
• Outside the circle putts (OCP) – If a player holed out with a putt thrown from further away that 10 meters.
• Penalties (PEN) – Number of penalties a player received on a hole.

Our goal is to gather enough volunteers to help with this, so every group would have a personal scorekeeper. We have several different ways of doing this depending on the amount staff that we have at hand.

As the last resort we’d ask you, the players, to keep track of these stats during a competitive round. Please note that we will not penalize players for not keeping track of their Metrix statistics. If a player decides not to keep metrix stats he/she simply won’t have any Metrix statistics displayed on the Disc Golf World Tour website. We trust that all players can see the benefits these additional stats bring to the spectators and also for the players themselves.

More information about the Disc Golf Metrix will be published closer to the event.

Official Wednesday Practice

Another new concept for Disc Golf World Tour is official Wednesday practice. This is a really important practice day for our staff as well. We are dedicated to produce high level, enjoyable experience for fans, players, and media, so training for that is needed.

On Wednesday, only registered players are able to play the course with issued tee times. During official Wednesday practice players are keeping their scores as well as Metrix stats to prepare for the actual event. Players are allowed to have caddies and/or filming crew accompanying them during the official practice round. Wednesday’s *UPDATED* tee times are available here.

Official Wednesday Practice round scores and Metrix stats will be shown in public. Naturally these won’t be counted to players’ actual tournament scores and no PDGA rating will be issued either.

Players should arrive at least an hour before their practice round and stop by at the info desk for Metrix training.

Official Player profile pictures

We have set up with our staff photographers to take official player profile pictures from each DGWT competitor. Photo shoot will happen on Wednesday before tee-timed practice round. The players should arrive groomed, shirts ironed, hair brushed to this photoshoot no later than one (1) hour before Wednesday practice tee time. Please, register at the info desk when you arrive.

Opening Ceremony & Players Meeting

Opening Ceremony & Players Meeting will be held at the Tournament Center. The players meeting is scheduled to start at 7 PM.

Tee times

Tee times for Thursday’s first round will be published at the players meeting at the latest.

Course

The La Mirada Open will be played on a modified temporary course layout. The official La Mirada Open course map will be published on Sunday, March 6th at 9 AM. The course will open for practice starting from Monday March 7th at 9 AM.

Payout

Total payout will be $20,000 and the winning share $2,500. We pay 33% of the field. Full payout schedule will be announced during the event week.

Caddies

Caddies are allowed (one per player) for both practice and competition play. Media policy applies to caddies as well. Prior approval from the event organization is required for taking photos or recording a video.

Official social media hashtags

We encourage players to use our official Disc Golf World Tour hashtags: #DGWT and #DiscGolfWorldTour and #LaMiradaOpen

Waiver

Every DGWT player is required to sign the waiver when they register on-site at the tournament center. Players will not be allowed to start their tournament round if they haven’t signed the waiver. (We have printed copies at the info desk for every player.)

Preview the waiver here.
