Presidents Cup 2017 Captain Candidates
The time has come to find out who will have the honor to lead the continental teams in the Presidents Cup 2017 at Nokia in July. The disc golf community gets to decide the captains of Team Europe and Team USA. But before you start voting you should get acquainted with the candidates.
Captain candidates for Team USA
David Feldberg
A true Presidents Cup veteran; one of the two players who has been a part of every Presidents Cup to date and a 3-time team USA captain. Disc golf World champion from 2008 and 2-time European Open champion. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his achievements.
Avery Jenkins
Another Presidents Cup old-timer – he has been part of the team USA six times out of seven and steered his team to victory in 2013. Disc golf World champion 2009. An iconic disc golf ambassador who can be seen touring around the world playing and instructing players.
Das Loomis
The current Aussie Open masters division champion has travelled the world playing disc golf – a playing record that covers 14 countries & 49 U.S. states proves that – and found time to be heavily involved in the activities of Kansas City flying disc club. Many disc golfers have had the opportunity to enjoy his work as a writer for the Disc Golfer magazine ever since 2010.
Captain candidates for Team Europe
Andreas Gertsch
Andreas “Andy” Gertsch has played disc golf professionally since 98 when he competed in his first PDGA Worlds. He has won the Swiss Championship on multiple occasions over the years. Andy is a great ambassador for our beloved sport and one of the most active internationally touring players.
Premysl Novak
Premysl is the single most influential person behind the success of Czech disc golf. He is a Disc Golf World Tour promoter, the founder of the Konopiště Open, and works full-time for disc golf. In the end of 2017 he stepped down from the position of the chairman of the Czech disc golf association after two years but will continue to have a large role in shaping the future of Czech disc golf.
Kari Vesala
Kari “Käpä” Vesala is one of the key characters of Finnish disc golf. A legend and a pioneer who has many Finnish championships under his belt ever since the early 80s. The reigning European Champion in grandmasters division runs a disc golf store in Helsinki and is still heavily involved in disc golf – especially in the capital area.
How to vote
The voting takes place on the Disc Golf World Tour facebook page. We have uploaded a photo of each captain candidate in an album and invite you to cast your vote by liking the photo of your favorite candidate. The candidates who get the most likes will be elected as the captains of their respective teams and they’ll get to be at the helm on July 19th!
The voting ends on June 13th at 12:00 EEST and we’ll publish the captains later on the same day.
