Player Spotlight Series, Part 8: Nate Sexton

It’s almost time to head to the Czech Republic for the Konopiste Open from May 5-7. To help get us ready, our Player Spotlight Series continues with Nate Sexton:

You are riding a nice wave of positive momentum with strong finishes in big tournaments from last year into this year, what has allowed you to kind of take that next step?

I think getting so much experience playing at the highest level these last two seasons has helped my overall game, as well as my confidence in my abilities. I feel I have a chance to win wherever I play, and in the past, I didn’t always have that feeling going into tournaments.

What’s left for you to nail down that big win?

I don’t think I need to change anything. I think I just need to keep playing as well as I can. I know I have the talent and skills to win at the Major, NT, and DGWT level.

This is your second year touring with Paul McBeth. What led you to tour with him?

He offered me the chance to travel the world playing disc golf. The truck and trailer allow us to be self-sufficient on the road, which makes touring much more comfortable for me. We are friends as well, so there is no player I would rather travel with.

What has been the best part of that experience?

Seeing so many new places, meeting so many fans, and practicing with the world’s best.

Your putting routine is a fan favorite. Did it just come naturally one day?

I don’t know where it came from, but it was not an intentional thing — just something my body decided to do while I tried to clear my mind and prepare to make a great putt.

After the Glass Blown Open, it’s time to head overseas for the Disc Golf World Tour. What are you looking forward to about the Konopiste Open?

I have heard the course is incredible, and that Prague is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. I am really excited to see the area and meet the local disc golfers. I doubt I would ever have had a chance to see the Czech Republic without disc golf bringing me there. I just want to see as much as I can while I am there!

This is the second DGWT event after the La Mirada Open. What did you like about that event and the excitement surrounding it?

I always enjoy events put on by Jussi and his army of Finns. They set the gold standard for professionalism in disc golf.

This is kind of a big stretch of tournaments after a bit of a break. What’s your main focus moving forward?

My focus is always on the current tournament. I strive to play one shot at a time, stick to my game plan, and throw shots that I can be proud of.

Thank you to Nate for taking the time to talk to us as he looks to continue his success on the course. Keep checking back for the latest news surrounding the DGWT and for more Player Spotlight interviews.
