Introducing the La Mirada Open course map
There are very few people in the disc golf world who have never heard about La Mirada DGC. Established in 1976, the course is an institution. The beautiful lush green oasis of a park has served as a sanctuary of generations of disc golfers for 4 decades.
A World Tour design
From a course design perspective, creating a new layout on this hallowed piece of land was a great honour and an exceptional challenge. Picking up the best parts of all of the layouts used over the years and still creating a World Tour ready course for the top athletes of our sport was not the easiest task out there.
After a lengthy design process, the President of DiscGolfPark© and course designer extraordinaire Jussi Meresmaa and Austin Montgomery finally settled on a 9078-feet, Par 63 layout. The end result is a combination of things old and new. On this course the rich history of the sport is in perfect harmony with the dynamic vision towards which our sport is evolving.
Honouring the legends of LaMi
The front 9 part of the course is coined “Selinske” after disc golf pioneer Tim Selinske who was a regular sight at La Mirada since its inception to his passing in 2009 that shook the disc golf world. Mr. Selinske was also the father of Golden State classic, the very first PDGA National Tour event held in 2003
The final showdown will be held on the back nine, coined “Dunipace” after Innova Discs co-founder and the inventor of the modern golf disc, the man, the myth and the legend Dave Dunipace. La Mirada DGC has worked as Mr. Dunipace’s home course from its humble beginning to this day.
New event, new equipment
In addition to the new layout, also the course infrastructure went through a facelift for the inaugural La Mirada Open. The Disc Golf World Tour athletes will have the privilege to compete on all new DiscGolfPark© artificial grass TeePads that provide optimal traction on both wet and dry conditions. Also the baskets are brand new Finnish-manufactured DiscGolfPark© DisCatchers.
Our course maintenance team has been working rigorously to have everything ready for the tournament week. OB lines have been drawn, TeePads have been installed and everything is ready for the course opening for the first practise rounds on Monday, 9 AM.
